There is no Dell updated firmware that I can find for this drive even though it is two years old and there are firmware updates. The HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM drive only reads DVDs and CDs but has no wrire capability, so you cannot use it to burn either DVDs or CDs. The HSUS drive will read and write to CDs, so you can use that to burn CDs.
